Batu's whimsical abstract paintings are packed with
vibrant colors and swirling forms. They are often made
with non-traditional materials, including pom-poms,
costume jewels and glitter. The resulting pieces are
kitschy, idiosyncratic works that reflect, in a slightly
twisted fashion, the traditional art of Batu's native
Turkey.

After a very successful run at Toronto-Canada theatre festival, the play will be presented for the first time in New York in Turkish for two performances only. Based on a story by Gogol
Set & multimedia design by Cem Aydogan
Lighting design by Harry Feiner"While the sight of rampant insanity is horrifyingly sad, witnessing delusional torment can provoke a ghastly kind of laughter. Moreover, delusional behavior mocks the orderly surface of daily life. It is absurdism in action. Turkar Coker, an internationally known Turkish-American actor, director, playwright is starring in his play, "A Madman" which he has written based on a short story by Nikolai Gogol. His superb portrayal of a contemporary middle class working man's gradual descent into dementia -by the absurd and petty nature of everyday human relations that surround him- finds some humor in the agony of madness.... The play has a strong comment on the condition of individual in our postmodern age. It also brings up, although indirectly, the questions about cultural relativity of mental condition of an individual in different societies and power relations, as those questions once asked by philosophers Deleuze-Guattari and Foucault" --The Fringe, Toronto's Theater Festival
